The Blair Museum and Historical Society is located in Lewistown, South Carolina, a charming small town with a population of 15,000. It is known for its historic homes and Main Street buildings, its proximity to the University of South Carolina, and its Southern hospitality. Founded in 1916, the BMHS is primarily publicly funded, but it supplements its operating budget with an annual fundraising drive to solicit private donations and with grant money. We offer permanent and special exhibits about local and state history. We also have an archives, gift shop, conference rooms and a reading room for research. Our friendly staff includes two museum curators, a reference librarian, an archivist, and volunteers. Community and school groups are invited to contact us for information regarding tours, educational opportunities, volunteering, and subscribing to our newsletter. We are happy to provide help with historical and genealogical research, both within our museum’s reading room and online through our new website. We invite you to learn more about the history of Lewistown through our “My Family Tree Museum.” This digital collection of photographs from our archives showcases five local families with historical ties to our community.
